Briana KoenemanA woman was rushed to the hospital late Friday night after authorities say she fell down an elevator shaft at Boston’s Fenway Park.
“The woman was leaving the park after last night's game. The Boston Fire Department says elevator doors on the fourth floor of the stadium opened suddenly, but the elevator was stopped two floors below.” (Via WBZ-TV)
A Boston Fire Department spokesperson told The Boston Globe the 22-year-old woman then fell two stories down the empty elevator shaft and landed on the roof of the elevator.
Emergency responders were called to the scene soon after.
The fire department was able to shut off power to the elevator and use a small ladder to go to the roof through a hatch to get to the unconscious woman, as it explained on Twitter later that night.
She was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Boston authorities told reporters there’s no official word on her condition. (Via WHDH)
But an ESPNBoston.com and Red Sox reporter tweeted late Friday a source says the woman is in critical but stable condition.
Officials say they don’t know the cause of this scary incident. But similar accidents have claimed several lives.
Back in 2011, a New York advertising executive was killed when officials say her foot got caught in an elevator’s closing doors. The car started to rise, and her body was reportedly dragged into the shaft. (Via The New York Times)

Fire officials say a state elevator inspector was called to the scene to conduct an investigation.
