You know the story. Boy likes girl. Boy wants to marry girl. Then things go south. In one case, really south.

Deadspin has the details:

“Jason Elia, a television writer living in Nashville, went to the trouble of getting Super Bowl tickets for himself and his girlfriend and was even going to propose to her … He was diagnosed with bladder cancer and upon hearing the news, his girlfriend apparently dumped him on the spot.”

Believe it or not -- the girlfriend still wants the tickets. Elia explains his pickle to Houston’s ESPN 97.5:

Elia: “Her argument is simple: I bought them with her in mind, she should get them, you know. Screw the break-up, you know.”
Hosts: “WOW.”

Let’s say Elia’s ex decides to lawyer up. FOX News asks: Does she have a case?

Mark: Heck no. End of story. No merit.
Host: Why not?
Kimberly: ‘Cause no judge or no jury is gonna go for her. She loses big time in the court of public opinion. One word: Cancer.

Elia still has the tickets, but according to the Huffington Post, he won’t for long -- Elia is giving the tickets away.

“What's a man to do? Take your problems to Twitter, of course. Elia held an online contest, promising to give his tickets to the person who can get him the most followers.”

Elia will announce his Twitter contest winner Tuesday night.
