A sixth woman came forward to accuse presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual impropriety Monday. But, unlike the other accusations facing Cain, this allegation deals with a 13-year-long marital affair.
Already aware of the accuser’s impending announcement, Cain got out in front of the story with Wolf Blitzer on CNN.
CAIN: “This individual is going to accuse me of an affair for an extended period of time. I don’t want to specify because I don’t know what’s in the story. Secondly, it is someone that I know who is an acquaintance that I thought was a friend.”
BLITZER: “Was this an affair?”
CAIN: “No, it was not.”
BLITZER: “There was no sex?”
CAIN: “No.”
BLITZER: “None?”
CAIN: “No.”
The woman claiming the affair is Atlanta businesswoman Ginger White. She spoke exclusively to Atlanta FOX affiliate WAGA in an interview aired Monday evening.
“It was pretty simple. It wasn’t complicated. And I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware that I was involved in a very inappropriate situation -- relationship.”
“He would fly her to cities where he was speaking and lavish her with gifts. They often stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead and dined at the Four Seasons restaurant."
Backing up her claims, White produced records of text messages and hand written notes exchanged between herself and Cain. FOX News has more.
“White once settled a sexual harassment claim against someone else and has a history of litigation, but she was able to produce some tantalizing personal notes from Cain and cell phone data that showed multiple text messages and calls from him, including some from the wee hours.”
With Cain already sinking in many polls, Monday’s controversy is posed to inflict more political damage to Cain’s campaign. MSNBC’s Hardball predicts this could be the dagger for the former Godfather Pizza CEO’s presidential ambitions.
“Obviously, he’s not going to be president. This is just another nail in the coffin... At some point, I would expect that the elders in the GOP will say, ‘Listen, enough’s enough. This is starting to tarnish the entire party. We look kind of childish and immature here. Let’s get this guy off to the sidelines. Enough already.’”
Still, as he has in past weeks, Cain firmly denies this latest allegation and says he and his attorney will deal with it as details emerge.
