Get out your wooden stakes and garlic, because a vampire is on the loose. Well-- in Florida, at least. A St .Petersburg woman was arrested for aggravated battery and assault on an elderly person--while being a vampire. Here’s Bay News 9 with more details.
“If you take her at her word, 22-year-old Josephine Smith is one of the undead. Police say a 69-year-old man was sleeping in his wheelchair was sleeping on this porch when he woke up to Smith on top of him, biting his face.”
And NBC explains what happens next.
“Blood dripping from bite marks on his neck and face, Ellis managed to scramble back into his motorized wheelchair and reach a nearby Shell gas station, where he called police.”
The Smoking Gun reports-- Smith says she was not aware of what she was doing during the attack.
“When cops arrived, they located Smith--covered in blood and half naked--near the Hooters, according to a police spokesman. During questioning, she was unable to tell officers what had transpired outside the shuttered restaurant. Nor could she explain what had happened to her pants or why her panties were at her ankles.”
An expert tells WTVT--people considering themselves vampires is not a new concept.
Dr. Laura Umpher: “It seems more like a psychotic reaction or maybe a drug-induced psychotic reaction.”
Anchor: “Dr. Laura Umpher specializes in various sub-cultures, she says that vampires do exist but not as menacing blood suckers on the attack.”
Dr. Laura Umpher: “It’s more of a lifestyle and a philosophy, people bond over it and they become friends with people that are like-minded.”
As for Smith, she won’t be socializing anytime soon. She is currently in jail being held on a $50,000 bond.
