Jury selection has begun for the trial of a woman accused of shooting a Florida lottery winner two years ago.
WPBF: “Dorice ‘Dee Dee’ Moore is charged with killing abraham shakespeare of Polk County after he won $30 million. Prosecutors say she befriended shakespeare, swindled him out of his money, and then killed him.”
Shakespeare, 47, made headlines in 2008 after winning the money. According to ABC News, he then met and befriended Moore, who was supposed to manage his finances.
“By 2009, he had burned through most of the money paying off the mortgages of family and friends, and thats when he met Dee Dee Moore. … Moore had a different look in court yesterday, but has always maintained that it was strictly a business relationship.”
According to WTNH, authorities say Shakespeare was shot twice in the chest in April 2009 and wasn’t reported missing until November. His body was found in January the following year.
“Police found the body of lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare buried in Moore’s backyard. the body was covered in concrete while Moore was living in the million dollar mansion and spending Shakespeare's money.”
According to ABC News, the trial is expected to last two weeks and prosecutors are not pursuing the death penalty. If convicted, Moore faces life in prison.
