X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters this weekend, marking the start of the year’s blockbuster movie season.
The film rates a 44 out of 100 on
Metacritic.com, which collects reviews from around the U.S.
The Dallas Observer calls it
“Altogether unfathomable, if not unbearable” and from the
New York Daily News “slice-and-dice superhero fiasco”Yet the film still figures to do well at the box office.
The film’s star, Hugh Jackman, talks to Good Morning America’s Diane Sawyer about how Jackman’s son is capitalizing on the Wolverine hype:
“Is this true that he’s using the Wolverine movies and his dad to get girls? The other day, not long ago, he goes, Dad, 2 o’clock, hot chick.”
“He walks over, and I hear him say, hey, you know my dad’s wolverine. Next thing I’m like head down, he’s brought them over, he’s like Dad, how about a few autographs for the girls.” (

Hecklerspray.com says Wolverine is so tough only the swine flu could take him down and compares the character to other superheroes….
“Every superhero has a weakness. Superman has kryptonite, Batman has young boys in capes and sexy leggings, and to beat Spider-Man all you really have to do is move your crime syndicate to a prairie. It really is that easy. To defeat Wolverine, on the other hand, may take a little more work….” (

The Toronto Star praises the acting of Jackman and co-star Liev Schrieber:
“The whole thing would collapse under the weight of its own pretensions were it not for the considerable acting prowess of Jackman and Schreiber, who know how to give good growl. They know they're in a comic book movie, but they act like they're making Apocalypse Now, and God bless 'em for it.” (
