What’s hot in tech? Delays and rumors, of course.

“Scratch a September release of the iPhone 5…” (Newsy)

“Early rumors slated the iPad 3 to be released in the second half of this year” (Newsy)

But Microsoft is trying something new. Windows Phone 7’s Mango update is done – early. Official word came from Microsoft’s director of Mobile Business in the Nordic countries, who tweeted –

“‘Now it’s up to our manufacturing partners to release Mango to our customers. Microsoft has delivered complete Mango earlier than planned to the manufacturers. Feels good now.’” (TechCrunch)

The director might be relaxing, but TechCruch reports on the hang-up.

“Just because Microsoft finished Mango a bit early doesn’t mean that its OEM partners are ready to rock and roll. Currently, Microsoft’s list of hardware partners includes HTC, LG, Samsung, Dell, Acer, Fujitsu, ZTE Corporation and, of course, Nokia.”

Mango marks the phone’s first major update, according to The Next Web, who also says the update was always due before this year’s holiday season.

“That it is out to carriers and manufacturers in August does seem to carry a message that the firm wants Mangoed handsets in the wild as soon as possible.”

When manufacturers pick Mango from Microsoft’s tree, will it be worth the wait? CNET’s Molly Wood isn’t loving the new fruit.

“There’s nothing really wrong with it. I like it fine.” (FLASH) “The biggest battle Microsoft has to fight is that most people who are looking for an easy-to-use, integrated experience are probably going to buy and iPhone, and I can’t give them a good reason not to.”

Speculations say to look for Mango in early October -- along with (maybe) the iPhone 5 and (possibly) Android’s Ice Cream Sandwhich update (tentitavely). While you’re waiting, don’t forget to update your Newsy app.
