What It Means For The US To 'Deconflict' With Russia
Russia's air campaign in Syria has introduced us to a new term: deconfliction.By Elizabeth Hagedorn | October 2, 2015
"We agreed on the imperative of as soon as possible — perhaps even as soon as tomorrow, but as soon as possible — having a military-to-military deconfliction discussion, meeting, conference, whichever — whatever can be done as soon as possible, because we agree on the urgency of that deconfliction," U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said.
If there's one word to sum up the Obama administration's Syria strategy, it's "deconfliction." That's military speak for making sure you don't accidentally shoot down each other's warplanes.
That's probably a good idea. Syrian airspace is a bit crowded these days.
