Ever wonder what President Barack Obama’s staff makes?
On Friday the White House released its annual salary list.
“The White House says it will pay more than $37 million in salaries for 454 employees this year, that’s compared to $38 million last year. Take a look the at the break down: About 20 employees takes home a salary of about $172,000, about 30% earn between $100,000 and $200,000 a year. 154 others will take home less than $50,000 this year. And three policy advisers don't get a paycheck.”
The White House lists the positions and salaries online - in a clearly organized chart...
Making it very easy to spot familiar names. CNN points out a few well-known staffers:
“The White House Press Secretary, Bill Daley, the President's Chief of Staff, Valerie Jarrett, a top adviser to the President. Those are among the people on the top of the salary list, making $172,200.”
As soon as the numbers were published -- reaction followed. MSNBC puts the top salaries in perspective:
“... it's more than three times the median household income in America, which stood at $49,777 at the end of 2009, according to the Census Bureau.”
And on FOX’s Willis Report -- another point -- perhaps, even a dig?
“Looks like no one will pay more for taxes under the president’s plan, which has $200,000 as the threshold.”
The Daily Caller recalls the last year of George W. Bush’s administration - when 130 people were paid more than $100,000, and another 137 made between $50,000 and $100,000.
“The pay is good, especially when those staffers help govern a country with a stalled economy, at least 9.1 percent unemployment, extreme deficit spending and a debt of at least $14 trillion.”
But what about those three staffers at the very bottom of the list - with big eggs next to their name? What do they do? ABC has the answer:
“Two White House advisors, Shale Wong and Jessica Schumer, receive $0 in salary, but are on fellowships sponsored by nonprofit organizations. A third adviser who receives $0, Patricia McGinnis, works part-time and provides advice on periodic trainings for presidential appointees authorized by Congress."
When these staffers eventually leave the White House, their paychecks are expected to be much higher. CNN reports senior advisor David Plouffe and Chief of Staff Bill Daley were each making millions in their private sector jobs.
