A playoff coach one year and out the door the next.  That’s the story in Kansas City, where the head Chief has been axed.
St. Louis’ KSDK has more.

“This is just in. The Kansas City Chiefs have fired their head coach Todd Haley. The injury ravaged Chiefs dropped to 5-8 after yesterday's loss to the New York Jets. Haley leaves with a 19-27 record in nearly three years in his first NFL head coaching job.”

So was it his on-the-field record, or something else which led to Haley’s ouster?
The NFL Network says it was the latter.  Haley found himself “on the outs” with his general manager.

“Apparently this was a power struggle, personality conflict that results in Todd Haley losing his job.”

“Well it’s a combination of things Derrin. I mean were Todd Haley and Scott Pioli ever meant to be a long term match? People I talk to and throughout this regime who I’ve talked to who know them both say no.”

This power struggle between the GM and head coach has been ongoing ever since Pioli hired Haley.  In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter explains even when the Chiefs did well, Haley’s job was still in jeopardy.

“Keep in mind, after they won the division last year, this came very close to happening. Right when the season ended last year. There were people in that organization and around that league who thought that Todd Haley was going to lose his job, in the days after they lost their game to the Baltimore Ravens. And in fact it was almost a surprise that they kept him at that point in time.”

But is the firing justified? With only three games left, SB Nation says Todd Haley deserved better from the organization adding, the coach was fighting an uphill battle all year.

“Winning in the NFL is a difficult business as it is, but to have a roster with little to no depth in key places suffer major injuries — it’s impossible for any coach to win with that.”

Romeo Crennel will be named the Chiefs interim head coach for the remaining three games.  His first game -- at home against the undefeated Green Bay Packers.
