The Minnesota Vikings released veteran Donovan McNabb back on Thursday -- leaving the QB looking for his fourth team in 20 months.
NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora speculates on whether a team will take a chance on the aging quaterback.
“Depending on how these front offices view McNabb, what their scouts say -- they’ll review the film on him this year, make a decision on if they think he has anything left. But if this was Donovan’s call, I know he’d love to go to Chicago.”
McNabb is from the Windy City -- and a writer for the Chicago Tribune gives another reason why the Jay Cutler-less Bears could be a good fit.
"McNabb...would be an ideal backup to Caleb Hanie. He clearly would be an upgrade over Josh McCown, the player the Bears signed last week."
But a writer for a Minneapolis radio station tweets -- the Bears know firsthand the McNabb of 2004 is not walking through that door.
“Don't think we should overlook that Donovan McNabb laid down in that blowout loss to the Bears that ended his tenure. Would they want him?”
On ESPN, Herm Edwards looks longterm -- saying McNabb could rewrite his legacy if he lands with the right team.
“You never end your career if you last a long time the way you’d like it. But he has a chance now to go to a playoff contender, to drive off into the sunset, help them get into the playoffs, maybe win a couple more playoff games and maybe win a Super Bowl. You never know.”
The Cowboys could also be interested in McNabb -- they put in a claim for Kyle Orton last week and have a higher waiver priority than the Bears.
