Authorities held a press conference Saturday morning following the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Authorities said the medical examiners are still gathering information and will release more later in the day.

CNN Reports.

“As soon as that work is completed we will be prepared to release in writing to you a formal list of names, birth dates and information.”

Fox News reports.

“All of the family members—they have asked you to please respect their privacy. There are going through, as I know you understand, a very difficult and trying time.”

Officials have assigned a trooper to each of the families who has lost someone to help maintain privacy. The bodies of the victims were moved to a morgue CBS News reports— overnight Connecticut authorities identified and removed the bodies of the 20 children and six adults massacred at the school.

“Our detectives worked well through the night and by early this morning were able to make positive identifications and make formal notification to all of the families of the victims.”

According to NBC, the school’s superintendent said the body count would have been even higher if not for the brave teachers who took action. ABC talked with the cousin of one of those heroic teachers, 27-year-old Vicki Soto.

“...She was trying to shield, get her children into a closet and protect them from harm and by doing that put herself between the gunman and the children...”

And that is when Miss. Soto was tragically shot and killed. The Telegraph reports authorities have also identified the school’s principal, 47-year-old Dawn Hochsprung and the school psychologist, Mary Sherlach as among the adults found dead at the school on Friday.

The rest of the names have not yet been released. Authorities set up a makeshift morgue in the school and took pictures of each of the victims for their family members to identify.
