The new dream team? The Miami Heat of the NFL? That’s what’s going down in Philly.
“Great weekend in Philadelphia if you are an Eagles fan. Making a big splash so far.” (ESPN)
“Dream team." (NFL Network)
The Eagles made moves that sent shockwaves across the NFL – and some sources say it isn’t over yet.
“Dream team is already making its way around the twitter verse.
How does that dream team compare to what you saw that first day?
Scott Hanson: Well they are gushing at the possibilities.” (NFL Network)
So who’s making the move to Philly? So far - Nnamdi Asomugha , Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, Vince Young, Jason Babin – and Cullen Jenkins. That’s four pro-bowlers, 4 starters, and an above average backup quarterback. Here’s how the team’s president describes it.
“It’s a scary term … somebody wrote the words ‘The Eagles are all in,’ and that’s how we look at it. We’re doing anything and everything we can, we’re being aggressive about it, and the expectations are high.” (NBC Sports)
But why Philly? Well it all comes down to one guy - the electrifying Michael Vick – according to ESPN.
“Vick has a magnetism that is hard to describe. Last season, he would get into the huddle when the Eagles were in the red zone and say, ‘I'm going to score. Who's going to help me?’ And he would. He was massively confident in his abilities, and the Eagles' players rallied around him. Now free agents are flocking to him.”
One of the new guys – Jason Babin – started the Miami Heat comparisons– when he tweeted...
“I feel like we are the Miami Heat of the NFL.....”
And he didn’t back down when he was interviewed by WTXF in Philadelphia – and says yeah - Vick was a big reason.
“When you have a guy like that can just make plays from anywhere, has weapons that can strike from any distance yeah we want to be apart of that. WE want to be on defense because when you are scoring all those points, guess what, we get to rush the passer all game long. ... The guys that they’ve hired, and the guys that they’ve brought onto this team to help its amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
So the Eagles are the new favorite to win the Superbowl right? Well – lets wait and see says Mark Shlareth. He remembers how the Packers won the Superbowl with half their team on Injured Reserve.
“They [the Eagles] are not the favorites. They’ve done great things on the defensive side of the football to be sure. There is no question about that. … Lets not forget, athough Green Bay hasn’t made moves, they are going to get a majority of their defenders back that were on IR last year. 16 were on IR last year … With Aaron playing at such a high level … this is still the team to beat."
