"This is what Verizon has come out and announced, saying it is working with Google to develop a tablet device that will be available at some point next year to take on the partnership between the Apple iPad and AT&T." (Fox Business)

Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam told The Wall Street Journal it's working on a tablet with Google, but offered no details on the partnership  or on the device.

We're taking a look at the potential Verizon-Google tablet, with perspectives from The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Business Insider, CNBC and The Baltimore Sun.

Apple claims it sold one million iPads in its first month on the market. On The Wall Street Journal's "Digits," a reporter explains how a Verizon-Google tablet could threaten Apple's iPad.

"What Google brings is the software, the applications that it has on its Android platform and other platforms. Verizon brings the network, so you can use this tablet computer wherever you go."

But in The Washington Post, one blogger says it's too early to compare the two.

"Don't call this thing an 'iPad killer.' It's foolish to make such a prediction of a product you haven't seen; every other device that's been labeled an iPod/iPhone/iPad killer has flopped in the market; the entire '[popular gadget] killer' meme is a stupid cliche anyway."

Verizon's rival AT&T loses its exclusive rights to the iPhone in 2011. On Business Insider, a blogger claims Verizon's tablet announcement is just a ploy and that the reality is Verizon is using Google to drum up negotiations with Apple.

"Now would be a logical time for Apple and Verizon to be in negotiations over the iPhone and iPad... And that explains how we could see an article like this... Verizon is just playing Google to get Steve Jobs to hand over the iPhone and iPad on favorable terms."

But on CNBC's "Fast Money", one analyst says it's Google that's using Verizon.

"It's a little surprising to me that they're working with Verizon because I know Google's also working on their own wi-fi network. So I think probably what's going on here is Google's going to test out their product with Verizon and use that technology to ultimately build their own machine."

And in The Baltimore Sun, a blogger says there is room for an Android-based tablet in the market, but Google and Verizon are moving too slow to make an impact.

"It looks like Apple will have at least a six month to one year headstart against any competing tablets. By the time competitors like Google and Verizon get their act together to release a tablet, the Apple iPad App Store will probably have tens of thousands of apps. And Apple will have released version 2.0 of the iPad, I'm sure."

Do you think the Google-Verizon tablet will be a technological titan against the iPad or is the announcement a sham?
