“The right to bear arms under our 2nd amendment is under assault.” -Lou Dobbs (CNN)
“Without a gun, how do you stay free?” -Glenn Beck (FOX News)
And “Second amendment rights are in danger.” (Chicago Daily Herald)

Hello, I’m Charlotte Bellis and you’re watching Newsy.com.  That was video from CNN and FOX.

Many U.S. pundits are up in arms over what they are calling an attack on gun control by Attorney General Eric Holder.

CNN’s Headline News brings us the Attorney General’s statement:

“There are just a few gun-related changes we would like to make. And among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons.” -U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder

Spokane, Washington’s KXLY reports an increase in gun and ammunition sales, saying gun stores can’t keep up with the demand.

“There’s fear involved, fear of the new administration and a potential ban on semi-automatic weapons, and fear of increased taxes on ammunition. And because there’s less supply, people are buying more than they usually would.” (KXLY)

The News Herald of Panama City and Examiner.com bring us two sides of the argument:

A gun enthusiast says, "This is America…and if you're not breaking the law, you should be able to do what you want." (News Herald)
But a writer on Examiner.com counters, “Show me a man who needs an assault weapon and I’ll show you a tragedy waiting to happen.” (Examiner.com)

Others are looking at different angles of the issue. CNN’s Anderson Cooper takes a look at where the drug cartels are getting weapons for the recent wave of violence on the Mexican border…

“It might surprise you to learn where all these guns are coming from.  It turn out, 90 percent of them are purchased in the U.S.” -Anderson Cooper (CNN)

Satirical news site Ridiculopathy.com offers a unique solution to the controversy…

“…maybe we should allow gun owners to wed their banned assault weapons as a means of keeping them… A man who has entered into a committed relationship with a weapon should not be forced to renounce that due solely to the whims of the voting public.” (Ridiculopathy.com)

What do you think about a potential ban on semi-automatic weapons? Would it be a violation of 2nd Amendment rights?
