U.S. Will Bid For 2024 Summer Olympics

The four finalists to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games include Boston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The U.S. Olympic Committee says it will bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

According to the USOC, the four finalists to host the event include Boston, Washington D.C, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

L.A. is the only city among the four U.S. candidates that has hosted the Olympics before — back in 1932 and 1984.

USOC's chairman didn't indicate which city might be the favorite, reportedly saying "It's a four way tie." And NBC says the committee plans to reconvene in January to hear each city's pitch to help finalize the bid.

The winner will then become the U.S. candidate to host the games, but it will then go up against several major international cities.

Germany, Italy and South Africa have already expressed interested. France has been rumored to want in as well.

The last time the U.S. hosted the Summer Olympics was 1996 in Atlanta. It hosted the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2002.

It's worth noting, the last couple times the U.S. placed bids, it lost — Rio de Janeiro beat out Chicago for 2016 and London took the games over New York City for 2012.

The USOC now has until September 2015 to submit a bid. The International Olympic Committee will make the final decision in 2017.
