It looks like the Murdoch family can’t get away from the phone-hacking scandal firestorm. Two former News Corp. senior executives accused James Murdoch of lying to Parliament.
Lets go back Tuesday’s testimony first -- this is what James Murdoch told the parliamentary committee:
Tom Watson: “or you might aware of the full Neville email, the transcript of the hacked voicemail messages?
J. Murdoch: “ No I was not aware at that time.”
On the testimony, James and Rupert Murdoch both denied consenting to a 700,000 pound settlement made out to phone-hacking victim Gordon Taylor. But Colin Myler and Tom Crone, two executives who both lost their jobs because of the scandal, say they personally had shown the younger Murdoch the email in question.
“The company paid him 700,000 pounds. The evidence with remain confidential including this email set by the detective who did the phone hacking. It is here black out transcript of Gordon Taylor’s messages, but this transcript for Gordon’s telephone messages. But these words “Transcript for Neville are highly significant..”
The Guardian reports the new evidence could bring down Murdoch’s empire.
“Worse, much worse, was the fact that this single document …What it revealed was the way senior staff at the NoW had been involved in systematic hacking – the very thing the paper had been strenuously denying all along, not only to Taylor's lawyers, but to its readers, parliament and public.”
A member of the panel, Tom Watson also urges the police consider the details Murdoch's allegedly misleading statements "as a matter of urgency." He tells the Telegraph:
“…it shows James is aware of phone hacking in 2009, he failed to act, he failed to report a crime to the police. And because he is paid a huge amount of money to buy the silence of Gordon Taylor, so he is facing an investigation for conspiring to prevent the course of Justine That’s a very serious charge.”
