A home explosion sent chaos through an Indianapolis neighborhood late Saturday night, destroying two homes and setting two others on fire. Here’s NBC News with the details.

“Two deaths and multiple injuries have also been reported. About 200 people sought shelter overnight in nearby elementary schools.”

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department there was extensive damage to much of the area.

“A couple of the older guys said it looked like a war zone... There is 18 houses on that one street that have some kind of damage... Not only the houses right behind the explosion houses, the houses from them are also damaged.”

WXIN says initial reports suggest a gas leak might have led to the explosion, but authorities still do not know the precise cause. Neighbors say it was severe enough to shake their own house.

“We were just sitting on the couch watching TV and then there was just a loud boom and then everything just fell.”
“It was just kind of loud and it shook your whole body.”

WXIN reports authorities will determine which homes are still safe to live in, but they are not sure when residents will be able to return to their homes.
