The Twitter account of hacktivist group Anonymous was briefly suspended Wednesday.

Think this might have anything to do with all the information the group has released about the members of The Westboro Baptist Church?

Yup. According to VentureBeat, Twitter can shut an account down...

...if it partakes in stealing and publishing social security numbers, street addresses, passwords, phone numbers, or any other type of private or confidential information.

And each and every one of those was being tweeted out from the YourAnonNews account. They even released real-time updates on the members of Westboro—

like where they were eating dinner or what hotel in Newtown they were staying in. Westboro Baptist Church is the Kansas-based group known for protesting the funerals of dead soldiers.

This weekend the group announced it planned to picket funerals of Sandy Hook shooting victims.

A writer for Gawker notes while the shutdown might not really come as a surprise…

“A Twitter shit-storm is brewing…. [because] if there's anything the hacktivist collective hates it's online censorship.”

And that’s pretty much what happened…
Literally, minutes after the site was shut down, numerous media outlets were reporting on it.

And Anonymous seemed to be well prepared if something like this were to take place— with a backup Twitter account, YANBackUp, that they created in the beginning of December.

From that account they tweeted the notice from Twitter and the specific tweet that got them shut down.

The group showed that they’d hacked a Westboro church member by posting a screengrab of a private message intended for Shirley Phelps-Roper. Anonymous tweeted, “Sorry Shirley isn’t available at the moment.”

But about an hour after YourAnonNews was shut down, it was back up again and in full force, tweeting

“BREAKING: We're back motherfuckers.
Oh… and thank you @Twitter, all the press about us being gone may help us reach 1M! Loves you!”

Gizmodo reports— Twitter declined to remark on the suspension, noting that they "don't comment on individual accounts for privacy reasons."
