Is Microsoft going to launch its own social network site? Folks on Fusible discovered Microsoft accidentally leaked an image of its social networking platform with the domain "socl.com." They named it Tulalip.
"I discovered Microsoft was the new owner of the domain socl.com… A teaser landing page has been revealed online today on socl.com and it appears to be a new social search service by Microsoft… Although the website isn’t operational, visitors can get an idea how it looks…”(Fusible)
A message on the temporary homepage reads "With Tulalip you can find what you need and Share what you know easier than ever." You'll be able to sign in using your Facebook or Twitter account. The button “see how it works”, “terms of service,” and “privacy statement” are not functional. (Image: Fusible)
The name "Tulalip" is also catching attention. While some comment it doesn't sound so ambitious as Google Plus or Facebook, it is thought to be a typical Microsoft codename.
"Tulalip is the name of a town in Washington state, as well as a name of the local Native American tribe from that area. Microsoft has used a number of Washington towns as codenames, including Quincy, Cashmere and Chelan."(ZDNet)
So, is Microsoft planning to launch its own social networking service to compete with Facebook and the new Google Plus? Microsoft didn't give comments on its future move, instead, they attempted to stop the rumors by posting this message on the currently blocked website --
"Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research whichwas mistakenly published to the web. We didn't mean to, honest."
