Should a trip to the airport involve naughty photos? The TSA doesn’t think so. Not anymore, anyway. Thanks to new technology many may be departing with their decency in tact. CBS’ Early Show has the details.

“The Transportation Security Administration is starting to install new screening software in those controversial airport scanners. Many passengers had expressed outrage over the scanners that show naked body images. The new software will substitute the image for a generic body outline and highlight areas of security concern.”

...and, according to officials, your security won’t be sacrificed in the name of privacy. TSA Administrator John Pistole tells FOX News...

“This software upgrade enables us to continue providing a high level of security through advanced imaging technology screening, while improving the passenger experience at checkpoints.”

More privacy -- same level of security? There’s got to be a catch right? Well, sort of. The scanners are still taking nude photos of you, but now, they’re for computer eyes only.

CNN explains.

“Now, one other feature of this new system is that there’s not going to be any remote viewing location. No other room where TSA screeners are going to be looking at the images of the bodies here. The computers going to do all that.”

And according to the LA Times, no remote viewing means...

“...passengers can be processed more quickly.”

“The TSA this month also announced plans to launch a pilot program to pre-screen frequent fliers who pose little security risk to speed up the checkpoint process.”

According to some this may be the end of an ugly era for the TSA. Writers at Slate say the new software was most likely adopted to cut down on costly staffing.

“I'd say Automated Target Recognition is the end of naked scanning. And this is a big deal, because TSA didn't have to do it. Last week, a U.S. appeals court upheld the constitutionality of full-body airport scans. … But let's not pretend TSA would have done this just for privacy. It did it to save money.”

According to a TSA spokesman the new software will be installed in all American airports in the coming months and timid travelers will be free to travel the globe -- no blushing required.
