Trouble at The Talk. The CBS daytime talker is looking a lot more like a daytime drama. E! catches us up on what’s going down.
“And the shake-ups on The Talk continue- in addition to Kris Jenner filling in for Sharon Osbourne next month, as we reported earlier, co-host Leah Remini has tweeted- quote, ‘It is official: I am sorry to say that I have NOT been asked back on the show.’ Leah says she received no explanation for the decision.”
For a show that’s been a ratings hit, an Examiner blogger can’t quite figure out the logic behind replacing both Remini and Holly Robinson Peete.
“For fans of ‘The Talk,’ the moves make no sense. The show had steadily improved in the ratings and Remini and Robinson Peete brought common sense and a lot of humor to the panel of five.”
Deadline suggests some behind-the-scenes tension with host Julie Chen might be to blame.
“…Remini hinted at potential problems when she tweeted, ‘I would work with Holly and Mrs. O any day,’ leaving out Chen as well as the show’s creator/co-host Sara Gilbert.”
In another article, Deadline’s Nikki Finke seems to think CBS is out of its mind for bringing Kris Jenner on board.
“What in the world is CBS thinking? The network is going to announce shortly that Kris Jenner, the insufferable manager mom of those incredibly annoying Kardashian sisters, is the new fill-in host on The Talk. (Don’t these people have enough money for doing nothing already?”
And Indie Wire isn’t too keen on another rumored replacement, conservative comedian Sheryl Underwood.
“…She’s like one of those really loud, boisterous women with a really loud annoying laugh who’s going to ‘keep it real’ isn’t she? And I’ll bet she starts every sentence with the word ‘Girl’ as in: ‘Girrrrrrrrrrrrl let me tell you sumthin’. You know that man ain’t no good.’ I can just tell.”
But Entertainment Tonight compares The Talk’s turmoil to another talk show that’s found success, despite multiple cast changes.
“The move is very reminiscent of The View's search for a new co-host in 2006 that saw eventual hire Sherri Shepherd appear as part of a rotating panel that would fill in every few weeks. But the only way to find out exactly who will be back is to tune in to The Talk's season premiere…”
Season two of The Talk premieres September 6.
