While Suzuki and Volkswagen are getting ready to split, BMW and Toyota announced Thursday in Tokyo the two companies will collaborate to develop batteries for greener cars.
Under this partnership Toyota will be sharing research and development data. In exchange BMW will provide Toyota with its diesel engines. NHK has footage from the press conference in Tokyo:
DRAEGER: "Whoever has the best batteries in terms of function, cost and quality in their vehicle will win more customers.
UCHIYAMADA: "We will collaborate in order to increase research and development speed."
ANCHOR: "Toyota previously conducted all research and development in-house, but with the intensifying international competition, it has began to shifted gears to use competition technology as well."
The cooperation between the world’s largest carmaker and world’s largest luxury carmaker comes as a surprise to many, considering the two companies were criticizing each other's technology not too long ago. The BBC reports...
