Tech gifts can be expensive, and always coveted around the holiday season.  But you don’t have to break the bank to get that special someone the number one gift on their list.

To help you out with your last minute holiday shopping – Newsy’s looking at some of the most popular – and low cost – holiday tech gifts.  First let’s see what people are asking for.

A correspondent for CNET’s The 404 roamed the streets asking people what tech gifts were at the top of their lists.

CORRESPONDENT – “What kind of tech gifts do you want for the holidays?”
INTERVIEWEE – “For sure the iPad 3G.”

The iPad is definitely one of the items on that list, and KHOU talked to the “high tech Texan” to see what else people have their eyes on this year.

“One of the hottest ones on the market.  It’s the flip video camera.  I mean it’s self-contained, it’s so simple, there’s no tapes.  It’s all digital.  This is perfect for kids, teenagers.”
“The other hot item this year is Kinect.  Garfield says its an add-on to the Xbox 360 that allows you to play games hands-free.”

So now that we have some of the hottest tech gifts people actually want – iSmash Phone tells us what NOT to get.  Here are some of them.

“1. Maylong M-150 at Walgreens:  This is the sub-$100 Android tablet…it’s not a very good one.  Most say it’s built very cheap and the battery lasts less than an hour on full charge.
2. Cyberclean:  This is supposed to be the best way to clean your gadgets.  It’s basically a tub of snot that you press against whatever you’re trying to clean… it gets worn out pretty fast.”

Although it’s sometimes tough to get the good quality tech gifts at lower costs, The Huffington Post has a list of some great gifts for the techie in your life that won’t break the bank.

“1. Violight cell phone sanitizer: ultraviolet sanitizing dock will zap those germs… and preserve your health.
2. iPod Shuffle:  Available at $49, Apple’s latest iPod shuffle features 2GB of storage space.
3. Roku: … starts at $59.99 and includes free access to Pandora… Twit.tv, Flickr, Facebook Photos and Vimeo.  Premium services such as Netflix… are also available for subscribers.”
