Eighteen days left until automatic tax hikes and budget cuts could take effect in the U.S. ABC has the latest on the fiscal cliff.

“President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner met at the White House for less than an hour yesterday. Both sides said they had a, quote, ‘frank discussion’ and the lines of communication remain open.”

The U.S. is sending Patriot missiles to Turkey in case of an attack by Syria. Al Jazeera explains.

“The U.S. government has signed an order to send missiles and military personnel as part of a plan which will see two other NATO countries follow suit. The Netherlands and Germany … ”

North Koreans celebrated what the government is calling a successful rocket launch. The BBC has more.
