As lawmakers get back to work, talks on the fiscal cliff haven’t quite started. CNN explains.

“ … there were staff discussions over the Thanksgiving holiday. They don’t seem to be as productive as some people had hoped. … as the House of Representatives comes back today, as the Senate came back yesterday, we’re still very much in limbo on the fiscal cliff.”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice is set to meet with top Republican senators today. Fox News says the GOP lawmakers will likely focus on Rice’s comments after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“ … they want to drill down, get to the bottom of what actually happened and why she made those kinds of comments. While critics are tough on Rice, the White House continues to show strong support.”

Police and protesters clash in Egypt. The BBC reports.

“ … opposition groups are holding a large demonstration against President Morsi. The ruling Muslim Brotherhood canceled its mass rally in support of the president to prevent violence.”

Greece has reached an agreement on its national debt. Here’s Sky News.
