Police are calling a 3-year-old girl “heroic” after they say she ran a mile down a busy Florida road Tuesday after her father allegedly murdered her mother.

"Neighbors found the little girl walking to her grandmother's house, saying, "Mommy is on the floor. Mommy's dead." (Via WFTS)

Authorities say the girl knew the way down the road because she had walked it with her mother several times before.

There is now a warrant out for the arrest of Johnny Lawshawn Shipman, the girl's father, in the death of Kristi Lynn Delaney, her mother. (Via WFTV)

According to police, Delaney was found on the living room floor of her home Tuesday afternoon. They have named Shipman as the only suspect in the murder and believe he has fled to Alabama. (Via Daily Mail)

Delaney reportedly filed child support and paternity claims against Shipman back in 2011, and last year, filed a restraining order against him.

Delaney's mother told WOGX her daughter was in an abusive relationship with Shipman.

"I know he was obsessed with Kristi. He didn't want to let her go. She didn't want to be with him. And I think he felt if he couldn't have her, nobody could."

Officials say Shipman didn't live in the home with Delaney and their daughter. He has reportedly been arrested multiple times for battery, burglary, and drug charges since 1995. (Via WZVN)

Police wouldn't say the girl identified her father as the killer. She is currently in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
