TLC just released the first promo for its new reality show, “The Virgin Diaries.” But, like the show’s subjects, the network isn’t scoring with this one.
The channel is home to voyeuristic hits like “Toddlers and Tiaras” and “Sister Wives,” and now “The Virgin Diaries” follows aging virgins as they try to find love. One such couple was so virginal -- they waited until their wedding day for their first kiss.
“You may kiss your bride.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
But while the couple’s wedding guests might be laughing, media outlets are not. Black Book Magazine is ready to go celibate on its TLC viewing.
“Remember when TLC used to stand for “The Learning Channel?” Like KFC, TLC has become a meaningless acronym that is used to identify mass-produced, nutrition-free sludge.”
And The Houston Press questions if that big wet one was even real.
“ … they're both executing the same unusual carnivorous fish lips move … so we're calling shenanigans. … Reality shows ostensibly mirror our lives but they resemble SNL skits more every day.”
Real first kiss or not -- TLC might have the last laugh. A writer for Ology points out that -- disgusted or not -- it’s hard to tear your eyes from the trailer.
“I just have to watch this. I have cleared my entire schedule … and will have buckets of laughter at the ready.”
