Tiger Woods is coming back -- again. This time, it’s from another injury.
His World Golf ranking has plummeted to No. 21 in the world, his lowest since 1997. After missing two majors, and an 11-week absence to make sure his left leg was fully healed, Bob Harig from ESPN says he doesn’t expect much from Woods.
Bob Harig: “There’s no cut because it’s a world golf event so that means he’s assured of four rounds and then you would assume, although we don’t know for sure that he’d play the next week at the PGA Championship.”
Robert Flores: “Bob what do you expect to see from Tiger Woods next week”
Bob Harig: “Yeah I think it’s a lot to ask to expect anything real good out of him when he hasn’t played for so long, and we really don’t even know how much he’s been working on his game.”
Tiger took to twitter last night informing his fans of his return
“Feeling fit and ready to tee it up at Firestone next week. Excited to get back out there!”
Tiger has yet to publicly state who his new caddy will be, but the Golf Channel has confirmed at least a temporary replacement.
“Woods will have pal Bryon Bell on the bag for the tournament. Bell has caddied for his friend and employer twice -- in 1999, when Woods was victorious at Torrey Pines, and at the same event in 2000 as a chance to ‘defend’ that title.”
Open championship winner Darren Clarke shares his excitement about Woods comeback.
"It's great he's coming back to play again. He's been a very good friend for a long time. He offered some helpful advice on Saturday (of Open week), but I'm not going to tell you what it was. That's between friends."
Woods now returns to Firestone, a place where he has won seven times in eleven attempts. But last year he finished plus 18 and 30 strokes back from eventual winner -- Hunter Mahan.
