"Johnny Miller isn't the only guy analyst who sees flaws, thinks he sees flaws in your mechanics. Are what they're seeing, are what they think they're seeing physical stuff or is there anything to what they're seeing? Well, I think you could pick apart any golfer who has flaws in their golf swing." (NBC Sports)
Just when you thought it couldn't get worse for Tiger Woods, he's not only lost his swing, but his swing coach. Tiger dropped out of the Tournament Players Championship, complaining of a sore neck. Now, after criticism from the golf world, Woods' swing coach Hank Haney has up and quit.
We're looking at reaction from NBC Sports, USA Today, WFTS-TV, and ESPN.
We start with the criticism of Tiger's swing coming from former player and current analyst Johnny Miller on NBC Sports. Were Miller's comments an indirect swing at Haney?
"Man I just hope he sorts out his swing. Especially his long swing. His irons aren't too bad folks. But the long shot, any long shot, he's hitting a lot of different shots. He has pop-ups, pulls and pushes."
In USA Today, Reid Cherner says, this may be the hardest hit yet for Tiger.
"It is one thing to lose control of your marriage and image. It is not good to have your body betray you in the middle of the tournament. But losing your swing coach? How much more indignity can one man take?"
WFTS-TV's Tom Korun in Tampa says this is likely a testament to Tiger's temperament.
"Tiger didn't fire him. Haney quit. You don't quit on the No. 1 golfer in the world because you want to go in a different direction. Hank Haney is too respected in the game to put up with ANY golfer who isn't committed to what he's trying to teach. Even the best."
In an interview on ESPN, Haney himself hinted that something beyond mechanics was the source of the hit.
"People seem to think all you have to do is swing a club. But you have to think, and you have to have your mind right. And, I think when Tigers mind is free and if he is injury free, I have no doubt that he'll be playing great golf again."
So what do think of Tiger's latest break up? Was it a legitimate split of is Tiger just incapable of commitment?
