Of course there is political motivations behind the criticism of Pelosi. She is an easy target, but the ire that she has drawn from Republicans and pundits speaks to the power she has in Washington - which makes Republicans nervous about the midterm elections.

Whoever's idea the stimulus plan encompassed is pretty irrelevant to me. All that matters to me if if it works or not. If the plan falls flat on it's face, Obama will take the biggest blow. If the plan is a huge success, Obama will be praised for the rest of his term. Regardless of Pelosi's role, she will not receive the credit (or discredit) she deserves for the stimulus bill. I have no way of knowing how much influence she had on the bill, but its safe to say Obama still calls the shots in D.C.

I believe that Pelosi does indeed have too much power. She is as far away as you can get from bipartisan and with Obama trying to preach bipartisanship, I think he needs to contain her a little bit. He is the President of the United States after all.

As far as the GOP targeting Pelosi because they can't criticize Obama...I don't think there is anything there. All criticism that is directed at Pelosi is criticism she brings on herself.
