“So have you been able to stop?  I have been able to do it.  I have been chewing on this nicorette, which tastes like chewing on ground pepper.  This was a deal breaker for Michelle, because I had been sneakin 3 or 4 cigarettes a day.” (The Ellen Degeneres Show)

Apparently President Barack Obama is still falling off the Wagon.  After announcing that he quit smoking almost a year ago, Barack Obama admitted Monday during his press conference that he hasn’t quit…yet.

“It’s an interesting human interest story.  I’ve said before as a former smoker I constantly struggle with it.  Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes.  Am I a daily smoker a constant smoker? No.  I would say that I am 95% cured.. "

One commenter on CNN is doubtful and brings us this perspective.

“95% cured – I wonder if Michelle would agree with that percentage? Kind of sounds like being “just a little bit pregnant” to me."

WBEZ’s This American Life took a different view, saying the Presidents smoking may have therapeutic value and he shouldn’t be forced to quit.

Senior Producer Julie Snyder: “The smoking is his one flaw. Basically the one sort of release
valve that he has of being not perfect and not always in control and
not totally responsible."

Host Ira Glass: “Let the guy have like one moment where he doesn’t always have to
be responsible, where he doesn’t have to be onstage in his life.”

MSNBC’s Keith Olberman takes a step back and looks at Obama’s smoking habit in the context of his predecessors.

“Where does this place on the list of recent presidential vices, you know among duplicitous war-starting and interns? Where does smoking rank against those two?...If some major event occurs, what his response should be is just walking in front of the white house smoking, smoking his brains out…It worked for Murrow.”

Is it even a big deal? Do you think he will eventually quit?
