The Tea Party has gotten a lot of attention over the past year, but in many state primaries the candidates aligned with the movement have fallen short at the ballot box. But some say that doesn't mean the Tea Party is down for the count.

We're taking a look at perspectives from MSNBC, Politico, Fox News and CNN.

A writer for Politico tells MSNBC the results of recent elections poses questions as to what the ultimate role of the Tea Party will be in American politics.

"It'll be very interesting to see in 2010 and definitely 2012 if this Tea Party as it's called is able to translate the buzz that it's built into actual political offices or if it just wants to remain this sort of ombudsmen away from the scene sort of critiquing and keeping politicans in check."

A Tea Party member in Texas tells Politico that part of the movement's current problem is it has yet to create a cohesive political action plan for the future.

“The movement has more, ‘This is what we believe,’ than, ‘This is what we are going to do about it.'  I think, based on what I saw, they couldn’t get organized."

Many Republicans have embraced Tea Partiers as conservative colleagues, but a pollster on Fox News warns the GOP not to take the movement's support for granted.

"It's not so much that the independents are voting for the Republicans; they're voting against what they perceive to be President Obama and the Democrats' liberal big spending, deficit-enhancing policies... The Tea Party, while center-right, is nonpartisan... the Tea Party is trending Republican, but they are not aligned fundamentally with the Republican Party."

On CNN, a Tea Party activist says the movement is more interested in changing the face of American government than helping one major party over the other.

"It's really about getting people animated, to get their votes in, change the makeup of Congress, change the makeup of state legislatures, and ultimatley vote the way we want them to vote."
