Two’s company, three’s a crowd and 19 kids might be the start of a serious voting bloc for former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.
It begins with a bus, says the Washington Post.
"Rick Santorum finally got a bus Monday. But the massive white coach with the words 'Rick Santorum for President' emblazoned on the side parked outside the seriously over-jammed local coffee shop where Santorum held his first Iowa event doesn’t belong to the campaign."
It belongs to someone who understands the whole strength-in-numbers game. The Duggars, from TLC’s reality show "19 Kids and Counting," are the driving force behind this busload of backing for Senator Santorum. Here’s a clip from the channel We Pick Rick on YouTube.
"Josh Duggar here and we are in Iowa for Senator Rick Santorum, and my brother and I two nights ago loaded up my family’s bus right here, you can see it behind me."
According to Fox News, the Duggar Dad -- that’s Jim Bob -- prayed with his family about which candidate to support for the 2012 GOP nomination.
"When they chose Santorum, the family decorated their bus, gathered about another dozen Santorum supporters from their church, and headed to Iowa to stump for the former senator."
While many of the 19 kids won’t step into a voting booth, MSNBC thinks their familiarity with voters could mobilize a key group for Santorum.
"...the Duggars' endorsement is maybe the most prominent for Santorum, given the ratings for their show … and their identifiable status as evangelical Christians -- an important voting bloc in Iowa."
USA Today says Christian conservatives accounted for 60 percent of those who cast GOP ballots in 2008.
Is another miracle in the works?
"Christian conservatives helped former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee come out of nowhere for a surprise victory in Iowa four years ago."
Jim Bob Duggar, a former Arkansas state representative, backed Huckabee in 2008.
This time around, he’s asking fellow evangelical Christians to support Santorum. With a bit of name-dropping. CNN quotes him.
"You know what, you're not going to find a perfect candidate, unless it's Jesus Christ running."
And while few can compare to the Duggars -- Santorum has a sizable family of his own -- seven kids.
