You’ve heard of open door policies -- here’s a no-door policy. A high school in McKinney, Texas has removed its exterior bathroom doors -- and students say the doors were taken down because of sex.
The stall doors were not removed - just the outer restroom doors. A school spokesperson says this is common in schools, and tells CNN the doors were taken down so teachers could hear if fights break out in bathrooms.
“They just wanted to be able to hear students better if something happened -- some sort of altercation in the bathroom.”
He also points out there is a turn in the bathroom after the doorways, so students still have privacy. But students say school officials are actually concerned with loving, not fighting -- that the doors were taken down because students were having sex in restrooms. KDAF reports:
“I heard the reason they took it off because they caught a freshman couple having sex in one of the bathrooms.”
“Students say the principal recently held an assembly condemning public displays of affection on campus - something the district confirms.”
And The McKinney Courier-Gazette Star says:
“Parents … have said that school officials told students Friday that the action was at least partially related to an increase in pregnancies at the school.”
But KXAS reports officials deny a pregnancy spike was a factor in the door decision.
“The McKinney Independent School District says the decision to remove exterior doors from the student restrooms at McKinney North High School had been in the works for a while.”
