The 2010 Texas Republican Party platform proposal would ban homosexuality and advocates jail sentences for those who issue same-sex marriage licenses.

We’re looking at perspectives from New York Daily News, the Huffington Post, WTXF and True/Slant.

First, The New York Daily News explains the 25-page platform, which advocates banning oral and anal sex in Texas.

“…the platform says that homosexuality ‘tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit and leads to the spread of dangerous communicable diseases.’ It also states that homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle in public schools...”

A writer for The Huffington Post is appalled, and says this just goes to show the Republican Party is hypocritical and in ruins.

“…for people who claim to be Christians, there's little Christ and a lot of devilishness in there. ... This policy paper represents the culmination of bad political decisions that have turned the Republican Party into the hot mess it has become.”

And Fox’s Philadelphia affiliate, WTXF, spoke to a psychologist who says he thinks it’s upsetting that homosexuals have to suffer for politics.

DR. CHARLES WILLIAMS: “They’re essentially sanctioning statewide a campaign against them [gay people.]
...
That's why these kinds of campaigns are so dangerous. People who do this only think about the short-term and long-term political gain, which I think is the major problem.”

But True/Slant points out that Democrats haven’t done a whole lot for gay rights, either.

“The Obama administration hasn’t repealed 'Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell', has defended ‘traditional marriage’…”
