T-O says he’s ready to G-O.
The unsigned 37-year-old wide receiver, just six months removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL, held a workout yesterday to show teams he’s ready. The NFL Network covered the workout - but no teams attended. TO tells Fox Sports - he wasn’t fazed.
“Why would I be upset? Like I said, I’m a realist, everybody knows I’m honest. It doesn’t bother me that nobody’s here, that doesn’t mean that nobody’s interested."
According to NBC Sports, that might be exactly what it means.
“I just don’t see it. Any team that brings him in right now... there’s not a team that’s in the playoff hunt or a division hunt that’s going to bring him in and allow him to potentially disrupt that chemistry, and if you’re a bad team you’re going to want to get a look at your younger players at that position, so again, I just don’t see a team bringing him in.”
But a blogger at The Score is with TO on this one-- saying no-show doesn’t mean no-interest.
“Although it’s a fun fact that no teams sent people to watch the washed-up Owens work out, it probably doesn’t mean much. If a team is interested in Owens, it probably isn’t likely to send a representative into a media zoo hosted by Owens and Drew Rosenhaus.”
Whether he’s washed up or not - that’s up for debate. Owens’ training and rehab regimen are considered among the best ever.
NFL Network analyst and former player Heath Evans says he had to retire after tearing his ACL. But Owens was quick to point out he’s different.
“Your injury and what you had to go through is probably going to be a little different from me. I’m different from you. So whatever I do is not going to be similar to what you had to go through.
When all is said and done, the future Hall of Famer is still a pretty good receiver, and ESPN’s Mark Kreidler thinks teams will figure that out.
“Eventually... some enterprising coach or GM is going to look at his roster, look at Owens and quite rightly conclude, ‘He's still better than most of our guys.’... And that's it, essentially. That's the equation. Some team is going to need Owens more than it's worried about him. It's football math.”
Owens is currently second all-time in NFL receiving yards and tied for second in touchdown receptions.
