He’s nicknamed “El Ponchis”--”The Cloak” in Spanish.
An American citizen guilty of killing four people in Mexico.
But it may be a shock to many when you hear Edgar Jimenez Lugois just 14-years-old.
REPORTER: “He admitted to brutally killing people, in an on-camera interview by Mexican military authorities. The victims all were beheaded.”
INTERROGATOR: “How many people have you killed?”
EL PONCHIS: “Four”
INTERROGATOR: “How did you execute them?”
EL PONCHIS: “Huh?”
INTERROGATOR: “How did you execute them?”
EL PONCHIS: “I slit their throats.”
Police say -- being a hitman was the Jimenez family business.
The Daily Mail writes...
“One of his sisters, aged 16, was also allegedly involved in the crime gang. She apparently disposed of her brother's victims by dumping the bodies on streets and freeways, officials said.”
Despite the brutality of the crimes, the hitman’s juvenile status played a big role in sentencing.
KGTV reports he did get the maximum... but not be as many years as some wanted.
“Under Mexican law Jimenez can only spend three years in jail because he' s a juvenile. After that he is free to return to America, nothing they can do to stop him.”
Many news media outlets are reporting the teen’s acts tie back to Mexico’s infamous drug cartels. The Global Post reports...
“He had been working for the South Pacific drug cartel in Morelos outside Mexico City.”
“Around 40,000 people have been killed in Mexico in the last four and a half years as the government battles with drug cartels.”
The LA Times says this case wreaks of what could be to come in Mexico -- fears of a pandemic.
“Good schools and good jobs remain out of reach for many young people, leaving up to a million youths drawn to the easy money and dubious street glory of the drug trade...The tale of "El Ponchis" was especially chilling.”
