Planking- step aside. Tebowing- you’re up.
As defined by Tebowing.com- “Tebowing”, a verb, means to get down on a knee and start praying, no matter what’s going on around you. But was it taken too far when Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch ‘Tebowed’ after sacking Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow?
HLN’s Carlos Diaz thinks so.
“...even taunted him once by striking his own pose. Not nice. Not nice at all. Timmy's second start as Denver’s new quarterback, ah, dreadful. Miserable. Worth praying for. Detroit won easily 45-10, and those that like to Tebow can go back to owling and planking.”
But Tulloch says he wasn’t mocking Tebow and said everyone is doing it. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert agrees.
“There was nothing offensive about Tulloch ‘Tebowing’…if the Lions were mocking anything it was a media and social culture that turned something of a private moment into a national craze.”
Lions’ tight end Tony Scheffler also took to Tebowing later in the game after a one yard touchdown catch. A blogger for Larry Brown Sports knew this was coming.
“Don’t be surprised if people start crying about that and saying he’s being disrespectful for making fun of Tebow’s praying, but what did you expect? Mocking or not, it’s just another way for Timmy to spread his faith.”
As for Tebow, he supports the new craze, stating on Twitter that he quote “loves it.” But a blogger for Awful Announcing wonders if this could be the end of Tebowing as we know it.
“Is this beginning of the end of Tebowing given you really can't go anywhere else from here...Can the Tebowing movement continue onward if it's eminent inspiration finds himself relegated back to the bench? These are important questions with no easy answers."
After the Lions win over the Broncos, Tebow actually approached Tulloch to shake hands, and wish him luck for the rest of the season.
