Syrian security forces extended their crack down in Hama. Human Rights groups in Syria report, at least 22 people were killed. Al Jazzera has the latest.

“REPORTER : Witness said they are in fact shooting demonstrators life rounds.”

Residents in Hama : A lot of people were arrested. Whole area was stormed. Tens people incident at the street. It is really a scary situation in the area. No electricity. No water. Some bumped bodies defected. Citizens in this area are really scared and frightened. ”

Hundreds of thousands of protesters, including women and children, have been flooding the streets in Hama since July 1st. The Syrian uprising is continuation of the “Arab Spring”, a revolutionary wave of demonstrations which have swept across the Middle East since Mid March. (YouTube)

Euronews analyzes why the Syrian government has had no effective strategy to end the unrest.

Hama was the scene of a bloody crackdown on dissent nearly 30 years ago when the country was ruled by Assad’s father.

The president is offering to discuss reform with the opposition, but they refuse to talk while army raids on protesters continue. ”

But despite amateur footage continuing to be uploaded on YouTube, Syria’s Foreign Minister tells SKYNews there’s no military campaign in or around Hama.

REPORTER: “ I started to ask him (Foreign Minister Walid Moallem), Hama what’s the situation on the ground? Has the government really lost control here? And he said absolutely not. The army is not there, the as police security person well. The ports about   tens blocking the entrance the access to the city he said we’re completely false. “

Despite the regime’s denial, Amnesty International calls Syria’s crackdown -- crimes against humanity and is calling for trials at the International Criminal Court. ABC quotes the report:

“These crimes include murder, torture, arbitrary detention and other severe deprivation of liberty and other inhumane acts committed intentionally to cause great suffering or serious damage to mental or physical health “

The Syrian unrest has also created a refugee crisis across the Middle East and in North and East Africa . UPI reports, 17,000 Syrians have sought refuge in Rukey -- another 10,000 are already in camps near the border.
