Lafourche Parish authorities say 38-year-old Ben Freeman killed his wife and two others before he was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. (Via WWL-TV)

Deputies say he also injured a Lafourche Parish Councilman — Louis Phillip Gouaux. Gouax's wife Susan is among the dead. According to WSLS, Freeman had previously been married to the councilman's daughter.

And according to WDSU, their divorce had been "contentious," with the sheriff telling the station Freeman had to have supervised visitation to see his children.

But it's not clear though what started the shooting spree. Deputies wouldn't explicitly say how his wife died. She was found dead in the couple's bathtub.

Freeman reportedly had former employment ties to three local hospitals — and authorities put all three on lockdown until they found Freeman dead.
