The world is still listening to Susan Boyle’s surprise performance on Britain’s Got Talent. The video has amassed nearly 100 million views on YouTube after nine days.

Hello, I’m Charlotte Bellis, and you’re watching newsy.com.

Last week Newsy looked at the 47-year-old’s overnight stardom. Now with more talent arising in the competition, some are beginning to wonder: Why are we so entertained?

The Huffington Post takes this perspective:

“…When someone has pure and raw talent of the kind Susan Boyle displayed admirably on Britain's Got Talent and her life is transformed Cinderella style, it is only natural that the world is moved. Add surprise to the mix and it is a fairy tale that really happened.”
(Huffington Post)

As new clips of Boyle’s first demo record surface, WIRED says the video may rejuvenate YouTube’s image. The magazine notes the current most watched video, Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend,” took more than two years to reach 118 million views.

“This might be the perfect storm: A feel-good story that generates a wild amount of traffic and attracts new users precisely as the company doubles down on its reputation as a music destination as well as a nascent TV and studio film portal.” (Wired)

And YouTube is not the only social networking site where Boyle’s fame is growing…

Her name is still the most popular trend on Twitter.

But a TV critic on The Globe and Mail asks: Have we been expertly manipulated?

“There is something far too slick and staged about the clip of Boyle on Britain's Got Talent. Simon Cowell is one the great Svengalis of popular music. The idea that Cowell was completely taken aback by Boyle's voice is simply too far-fetched.” (The Globe and Mail)

The competition on Britain’s Got Talent is far from over. The Today Show profiled another unlikely competitor …

“Listen to this. He’s 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi, the latest sensation to wow the judges. And even the competition: ‘Knock out. Sensational. Really good.’ … Now he sees himself in a head-to-head competition with a woman who has become a worldwide sensation, both of them rocketed from obscurity on the strength of just one performance.” (NBC's Today Show)

What do you think makes Susan Boyle’s performance resonate with so many people? Do you think Boyle will win Britain’s Got Talent or is too early to tell?
