Police arrested Steven Powell, the father-in-law to missing Utah Mom Susan Powell. Washington’s KIRO explains his son’s wife has yet to be found, but police unearthed new concerns after searching his house.
ANCHOR: “Steven Powell is facing child pornography and voyeurism charges.”
REPORTER: “He’s going to be charged with 14 counts of child pornography and one count of possession of minors engaged in sexually explicit content.”
In a bizzare twist detectives found more than 2,000 images during a search of Powell’s Puyallup, Washington home. Fox News reports officials discovered minors weren’t the only subjects in the shots.
REPORTER: “Police seized thousands of videos and pictures of young begins taken from Stephen Powell's home. Among them, images of Susan Powell...”
SPOKESMAN: “Some pictures of her, of Susan, that were also taken without her knowledge. It looked like they were secretly taken. And inappropriate.”
Police also speculate some of Stephen’s stash was taken with his own telephoto rig. The Salt Lake Tribune says...
“Pierce County Sheriff’s officials determined those girls lived next door to Steven Powell... His bedroom window faces the side of the victims’ residence and the line of sight matches the camera angle seen in the photos”
But this might not be that surprising. ABC sat down with Powell before his arrest - and he wasn’t shy.
POWELL: “Susan was very sexual with me. She was very flirtatious... She did it. I did it. We interacted in a lot of sexual ways because Susan enjoyed doing that.”
Susan’s Powell’s Husband, Josh is the only person of interest in her disappearance two years ago. The News Tribune spoke with investigators who cleared the air saying -- this incident is unrelated.
“Steven Powell has increasingly become a figure in the ongoing investigation. Investigators have been to his home at least four times since his daughter-in-law's disappearance... [They] issued a press release tonight stating that Steven Powell's arrest was not related to the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell.”
Powell’s estranged daughter Jennifer Graves tells KSL, she’s wouldn’t be surprised if this was the first step in uncovering more about Susan’s disappearance.
GRAVES: “It’s not unexpected I guess. I’ve thought for a while now, he had issues who were pretty big...” (FLASH)
REPORTER: “Jennifer Graves says that in the past she believed that her brother Josh had something to do with Susan Powell’s disappearance, then last night she told us last night she wouldn’t be surprised if her father was involved as well. She is hopeful his arrest with flush out new information about what really happened.”
Police are now focusing on the task of notifying local residents if their family or child was found among the recovered photos.
