Ever log on to Facebook and realize-- you’ve got fewer friends than you had yesterday? A new Nielson study may help explain the ultimate Facebook diss- the unfriend. Here’s KMSP.

“According to Nielson, the number one reason for deleting someone is that they make offensive comments. Next, because you don’t know them very well. Third on the list are people who try to sell you something. Its followed by Debbie downers, always posting depressing comments...I’ve done all of those things. I have too. You have the Debbie downers and then you have the baiting statuses like ‘Worst Day Ever.’”

Gals were more likely than guys to give someone the boot for those offensive comments. Here’s living proof-- the lady anchors for The Daily Buzz.

“Because you know, when you see people going off or cursing--or putting naked crazy videos on -- I hit delete in a heartbeat and then it’s like ‘do you want to unfriend?’ Yes, I do. One time is all it takes. I don't mean to sound...”

“No I’m with you on that because if you drop the f-bomb, you're gone.”

So if you want to keep your friend count in tact-- don’t cuss-- don’t be salesman-- don’t be a Debbie downer--
…..this all sounds familiar to a PC World blogger.

“In other words, people don't want to be your friend if you're offensive, overly political, always trying to sell them something, or you just talk all the time about nothing--sounds kind of like the real world.”

But hey-- if you’re unafraid of the unfriend-- Gawker used the results of the study to create a foolproof formula for online loneliness.

“...if you want to lose all your friends immediately, just post the following status update every five minutes for a week: ‘Why can't [members of racial group] be more like [members of other racial group] and vote for [political party]? Buy my ebook on the topic so that I won't have to kill myself.’”
