Briana KoenemanNearly a week after 22 people were stabbed inside Pennsylvania's Franklin Regional Senior High, classes will resume for the first time since the tragedy.
"A regular class schedule is in place at Franklin Regional High School today. Students and parents were able to visit the school yesterday to tour the facility and to speak with teachers and counselors." (Via WFMZ)
School officials have been working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, teachers met with crisis intervention specialists Monday before taking some time to adjust to their surroundings at the school.
Then, on Tuesday, students and parents were invited back to tour the thoroughly cleaned and restored building before classes resumed the next day.
The high schoolers who witnessed the attack say they didn't know how they would feel when they re-entered the building just days after 21 of their peers and a security guard were brutally stabbed. (Via WPXI)
One of those witnesses, 17-year-old Gracie Evans, told NBC Tuesday it felt different to be back when the school's doors finally reopened, but it was a "good different."
Evans was accompanied by eight other students during Tuesday's visit, including 16-year-old Brett Hurt. Evans says he pushed her out of the way just as Hurt was stabbed in the back.
"I guess it was natural or I had a feeling or something. Afterwards, I heard her screaming and crying, and I didn't know what was going on." (Via MSNBC)
Sixteen-year-old Alex Hribal has been charged as an adult with four counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of aggravated assault. Four students wounded in the attack are still in the hospital. (Via CNN)
Wednesday's school day began with a gathering on the football field and members of the church next door holding signs of support near the building's entrance as students walked inside. Classes will be held Wednesday and Thursday, but the students will be off Friday and the following Monday for spring break.
