Disney is wasting no time with the pre-production of the newest Star War film. CNN has the details.

“We now know who’s going to write the new star wars sequel. … Michael Arndt who wrote the hugely successful screenplay of Toy Story 3. He also won an academy award for Little Miss Sunshine.”

Not only is he penning the screenplay, Deadline Hollywood reports he wrote a treatment, a  rough draft of sorts, for the whole trilogy.

“He started working with George Lucas a couple of months ago to find a way to move the franchise forward. Well, before Lucas sold his company to Disney the got it all mapped out.” (Via KSMP

So far no plot details have been announced, but there’s a decent chance Luke, Han and Leia will return. Slash Film notes. (Via YouTube)

“...sources indicate that the studio is eager to bring back the central trio … albeit as much older characters.  … Disney is said to be interested in bringing back Mark Hamill in particular. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher have also recently expressed their willingness to return to the franchise.”

No director has been attached to the script as of yet but IndieWire says a few big name directors will be looking at it.

“...Brad Bird and J.J. Abrams among them  … and we have to wonder, with work already starting, is a helmer quietly already working on this in the background? Well, we do know Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Zack Snyder have already ruled themselves out.”

Star Wars Episode VII is slated for release in 2015
