December to Remember. Or D2R. Sounds like catchy new song lyrics. But, nope. It’s the hashtag three staffers for a Democratic Congressman used while drinking at the office. MSNBC explains.
“So, you looking for a job? Congressman Rick Larson just fired three of his staffers for apparently drinking on the job, insulting the quote, idiot boss. And we get that quote because they tweeted all about it.”
So, what exactly did the staffers tweet? Seattle’s KOMO reports:
“In one, Burroughs tweeted, ‘I’m pretty sure I couldn’t pass a field sobriety test right now. Looking forward to a day in the office.’ In another he tweeted “Dear taxpayers - I hope you don’t mind that I’m watching YouTube clips of Nirvana at my government job....’”
Though fired, it looks like the three staffers had their fill of fun. The office party went on for about eight days before the boss shut it down-- and as Politico reports-- the behavior isn’t that wild-- for the Hill, anyway.
“The Capitol Hill staff culture has always resembled a fraternity party for the just out of college professionals who dominate the offices. In this case, staffers clearly crossed the line, Larsen’s office says.”
And the Northwest Daily Marker takes that analysis one step further-- trying to explain the young culture at the Capitol.
“Left unsupervised, the combination of youth indiscretion and close proximity to the nation’s levers of power produces results that can be ugly, messy and embarrassing for senior staff and even the representatives voters send to the Capitol to do the people’s work.”
But a blogger for Network World says-- there’s no excuse for this kind of behavior - and duh-- think before you tweet.
“[The fired staffers] are the latest to forget that Twitter lives on the Internet and tweets are visible to one and all. An inexplicably common memory lapse, certainly, but the behavior on display in this instance is breathtaking for both its brazenness and stupidity.”
All of the tweets from “December to Remember” have been deleted along with the staffers' personal Twitter accounts.
