A rap song-- that some find offensive. OK-- not that unusual. But this time the offended party is the US military. And the offender? The 21-year-old rapster aptly known as Soulja Boy.

Here’s an edited version of the controversial line.

“All We Know Is Money & Da Loot.
40 On My Troop. 80 Drop Top Im On Da Loose.
F*** Da F.B.I. & F***All Da Army Troop.”

Veterans were quick to respond.  Fred Flores, a retired Marine, tells TMZ

"’It's a very offensive statement ... especially with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up.’"

Another veteran-- former infantry Sergeant Leo Dunson opted to respond via his own rap called “Change your name”. Bleeps are courtesy of TMZ.

“I heard your song about f*** the Army Troops.  Don’t ever disrespect the U.S. Military Mother _.  Somebody call College Park and tell them I’m bout to go in. “

And the backlash doesn’t end there. According to Allhiphop.com,

“...a former military veteran has filed an online petition, seeking to have the rapper's music banned from all U.S. military bases.”

But WOFL talked to radio host Scott McKenzie who says while this song is offensive, Soulja Boy has the right to express his views.

“The soldiers fight for our freedoms, this is kinda what we always talk about in these situations, they fight for our right to be able to say whatever we want to say.  It doesn’t make it right that he said it but he does have the right to express himself in whatever way he wants.”

The rapper did issue an apology on Global Grind saying

“When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them.”

But people are skeptical of the apology.  Linda Shaw of Gather doesn’t think it’s sincere.

“Soulja Boy is only apologizing because he has to. If he didn't get so much criticism for the song and it didn't threaten to break his multi-million dollar rap career, then he wouldn't be apologizing.”
