A man in Australia has been acquitted of rape after a jury found it "not possible" for the woman's skinny jeans to be removed without consent — sparking outrage all over the world.

It's being called the "skinny jeans defense" and it's been used in South Korea and Italy. One blogger for True/Slant says it's insane.

"Did the jury look at the amount of elastic compared to cotton in the victim's jeans? When does scrutinizing the tightness of someone’s clothes become a deciding factor in a rape case?"

The man is saying the act was consensual, but women's blog Feministing points out even if the victim initially helped remove her jeans, it may not have been with consent.

"...Even if she did help remove the jeans  this could easily be taken in the moment so that the action did not become even more violent or simply out of fear."

One writer for Slate says the case highlights a growing problem.

"This incident serves as a potent reminder that laws are only as modern as the people they govern... progressive reforms are no safeguard against stubborn stereotypes about female behavior and sexuality."

What do you think of the skinny jeans defense? Is it valid  or just ridiculous?
