Siri is no longer just a personal assistant --- she’s now a front-seat passenger in a few Chevrolet cars. Here’s WILX.

“Apple's popular personal assistant ‘Siri’ will soon be available in three General Motors vehicles ... Siri will be installed in the Chevrolet Spark mini car, the 20-14 Spark electric vehicle, and 2014 models of the Chevy Sonic subcompact cars.

Drivers will be able to use Siri behind the wheel to check sports scores, to call a friend, or maybe to get an answer to a trivia question, all while keeping their eyes on the road – or as Apple calls it – “Eyes Free Mode.” Don’t worry—safety comes first. PCMag reports:

“An interesting safety component of the Eyes Free mode is the fact that while active, the system will not illuminate the phone's screen as Siri usually would when responding to the user, thus avoiding distractions while driving.”

In addition, Siri won’t be able to display a web page while answering questions on the road to assure no driver distractions. USA Today notes, Siri’s new job is pretty innovative.

“The new feature underscores how automakers are struggling to incorporate the latest developments in smartphones into their cars—and run the risk of having cars that feel outdated in a few years as technology marches on.”

But Fast Company notes, Siri’s voice may be coming through the speakers in another car already.

“It's actually not the first time you'll hear Siri's voice in a GM car, as the Cadillac XTS shares the same voice as Apple's PA--both firms use Nuance Communications' speech recognition technology. Although several other auto firms have confirmed that they will sync their in-car systems with Siri, GM is the first to get there.”
